Crowd Density Thresholds Explained

Density is often expressed as people per square metre (p/m²). Crowd-science literature commonly discusses ranges around 2–3 p/m² as conditions where personal space and movement may become more constrained, and around 4 p/m² and above as conditions that can merit heightened attention.

These figures are approximate context, not universal safety limits: crowd behaviour, route geometry, age and mobility, barriers, weather, and movement direction all matter.

Treat any threshold as a locally validated trigger for assessment rather than a declaration that a condition is safe or unsafe.
